Acupuncture works through the nervous system, the circulatory system, and the immune system. Needle insertion stimulates the tissues at the insertion site which sends signals to the spinal cord and brain. This produces a regulatory effect on organ function, reduces pain and inflammation, increases blood circulation, stimulates the immune system, relaxes the muscles, and lowers stress hormones. The combination of these actions produces the therapeutic effect which over the course of care results in observable and measurable improvements.
